Event Fourteen:
African Union.
Although poverty rates have not increased the way they should, many African countries have shown signs of progress in governance. The African Union established the voluntary self-monitoring (APRM). APRM stands for African Peer Review Mechanism. This is for states to conform to political, economical, and governance values that have been agreed upon. Twenty-nine out of the fifty states in Africa, signed up to be apart of APRM by June in 2008. The number of countries that signed up for APRM means that Africa knows that change needs to happen, and are willing to improve for the greater good.
Those states are: Algeria, Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, and Zambia.
