Event Five:
Agriculture in Africa is a large business.
By 1982, there had been more than a total 200 million dollar loss in 11 crop-marketing boards. Crop-Marketing Boards is a way for the Nigerian federal and regional governments to control the exporting of crops through using marketing boards. The World Bank stated that ninety percent of the capital expenditures (the amount of money spent) in the agriculture business from 1975 to 1982 went to a government owned, state-owned enterprise, state enterprise, or government business enterprise. Due to the money going to the government mainly, and not the people, it hurt the economy, and made the people suffer even more with the lack of money.
