Event Two:
This is the man who left his country in ruins. His name is President Mobutu.
In 1973, President Mobutu launched "Zairianization." Which is when European-owned buinesses were seized and given to the Airians for token compensation. Several of the buisnesses went to the President's family and his cronies. Just in two years of Zairianization coming into play, Zaire's economy took a huge beating. The economy shrunk fifteen percent. Not many of the new companies knew the ropes of running buisnesses. After Mobutu was finally forced out of power in 1975, the Europeans came back to their buisness. In most cases there was little left to run, which in the end greatly hurt the economy and led to poverty.
